The ICAC participates in the biomedical research project Medigene
The Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC) participates in an European project to study diabetes genetically, named Medigene. Its aim is to compile data about the funerary practices in the city of Tarragona and to extract samples of teeth of human skeletons preserved in the National Archaeological Museum (MNAT) among centuries III and VII AD. Then the samples are transferred to the Institute of Biomedical Research August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) in Barcelona, where they are processed and kept.
