Director BIG-NSE (Berlin International Graduate School of Natural Sciences and Engineering, PhD School of UNICAT (Unifying Concepts in Catalysis Cluster of Excellence).
Prof. Reinhard Schomäcker studied chemistry at the University of Bielefeld and received a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1987. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and six years as a research scientist with the Bayer AG in Leverkusen he was appointed as a professor in Chemical Engineering at the TU Berlin in 1996.
His research interests are catalysis, multifunctional reactors, multi-phase systems and the application of colloids in chemical reaction engineering. He acted as managing director of the Department of Chemistry in 2003 und 2004 and is member of the scientific advisory boards of different institutions and journals.
Since 2007 he is head of the Berlin International Graduate School of Natural Sciences and Engineering (BIG-NSE) and member of the Cluster of Excellence "Unifying Concepts in Catalysis, UNICAT".
