The two main pillars of Tecnoparc are research and knowledge transfer in the fields of health and nutrition. This world class facility is the result of a coordinated R&D&I policy forged through the commitment of economic, technological, regional and innovation stakeholders in the region.
The park, located in the city of Reus, has research as its foundation and at its core. One of its key components is the Technology Centre for Nutrition and Health (CTNS), which provides support for food and agriculture companies and conducts research projects in the search for tools to produce and verify healthy qualities in functional foods.
The complex will also be the site of the Pere Virgili Institute for Health Research, which fosters quality research in the fields of healthcare and biomedicine and includes the research structures of the university and the field of health within the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS).
Tecnoparc also includes Sant Joan Hospital of Reus and a large part of the university nutrition and health programmes are to be moved there. The Bellissens Campus of the URV, situated within this complex, will provide accommodation and services for the university community.
A centre for biocompanies
There is also to be a centre for biocompanies, an incubator in which the companies that set up there will have the opportunity to share facilities and synergies. In a second phase these businesses can move to CEPID, the Business Innovation and Development Centre planned to facilitate business activities linked to the food, new technologies in healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
In the Tecnoparc setting a hub of innovation is being created through the participation of companies in the sector. It is also home to the Innovation Companies Group, some twenty firms, institutions and research centres linked to the park which have joined together to boost their competitiveness through shared strategies to generate innovative products.
The Tecnoparc building, at the heart of the technology park, is to house the new Trade Fair and Congress Centre, a service centre run by the Reus Chamber of Commerce, a technology business incubator, an audiovisual production facility and an amphitheatre.
