A third of the articles published by CEICS have involved international collaboration
During 2012, the URV and the institutes and research centres that make up the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS) published 1,145 scientific articles, 445 of which involved collaboration with researchers from other countries.

The Nutrition and Health R+D+I Centre, a reference point for the Catalan agrifood and health sectors
The Nutrition and Health R+D+I Centre is situated at the Reus Tecnoparc, and promoted by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. It is home to the Nutrition and Health Technology Centre (CTNS), the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV), the Omic Sciences Centre (COS) and the Nutrition and Health Innovative Business Association (AINS).

Chenomx Inc. and Spain’s Centre for Omic Sciences announced that they will collaborate on NMR-based metabolomics services serving the European health sciences research community. Utilizing the expertise from both partners, this collaboration offers a robust research platform for European researchers.

The researchers Carmen Claver and Josep Domingo-Ferrer have been appointed members of the Academia Europaea, a European non-governmental scientific organisation founded in 1988. Its members are scientists and academics who aim to promote learning, education and research.

The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia is dedicating the Forum 2012 to innovation
The aim of the forum is to boost the innovative capacities of the southern regions of Catalonia. The forum proper will take place on 26 and 27 of November in Reus and Tarragona, although during the month leading up to the event there will be a series of activities related to the innovative capacities of the participants. The forum will be the first of a series of events and actions aimed at positioning the region as a leading international innovation hub for Horizon 2020.

Researchers, doctoral students and companies share knowledge on molecular nutrition
The international doctoral workshop on molecular nutrition is the first to be held within the framework of the URV’s Nutrition and Metabolism doctoral programme. The seminar brought together doctoral students and researchers in the field of molecular nutrition to discuss recent discoveries and new technologies and developments; to offer courses for doctoral students; and to provide an environment to encourage cooperation in research and education among the various groups involved.

URV researchers create a device which easily detects celiac disease
This is the first prototype for diagnosing gluten intolerance which does not require an intestinal biopsy. The new device identifies the disease by analysing a drop of blood in less than 20 minutes. The device is the result of a European project led by Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona.

Creation of the first post-doctoral Campus of International Excellence position in scientific excellence
This competition aims to recruit a young researcher to present a project to the European Research Council (ERC) “Starting Grants” scheme. The assessment criteria are based on scientific excellence.
