The Tourism Research Institute of Catalonia (IRTUCA)

The Tourism Research Institute of Catalonia (IRTUCA) is now in the process of being created. The main offices of the institute will be located in Vila-seca along with the Science and Technology Park of Tourism and Leisure (PCTTO) and it will be jointly managed by Rovira i Virgili University (URV) and the University of Girona (UdG).

It is hoped that this new institute of the Catalan government, which will promote lines of research of national priority,  will become a benchmark in specialization and research into tourism. It will take advantage of synergies with the Consortium for Improving Competitiveness in Tourism and Leisure of the Province of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada Foundation of Tourism Studies, which has its headquarters in the PCTTO, to achieve this objective.

The institute will be a space for research from which new strategies will be defined and new tools sought in the advancement of the transformation of the tourism sector from the perspective of expected demand and the potential and strengths of local destinations. The best researchers in the world of tourism will be involved in the institute, which will have the active participation of the two universities heading up the project.
