During 2012, the URV and the institutes and research centres that make up the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS) published 1,145 scientific articles, 445 of which involved collaboration with researchers from other countries.

The aim of the forum is to boost the innovative capacities of the southern regions of Catalonia. The forum proper will take place on 26 and 27 of November in Reus and Tarragona, although during the month leading up to the event there will be a series of activities related to the innovative capacities of the participants. The forum will be the first of a series of events and actions aimed at positioning the region as a leading international innovation hub for Horizon 2020.

A multidisciplinary team of IPHES (Institut Català de Paleoecologia Humana i Evolució Social) has recently travelled to China to establish contact, study material and visit archaeological sites with the objective of promoting a network with research staff from the Asian country. Among other initiatives, the researchers have compared stone tool remains from the earliest deposits from the country (1.5 million years ago, 500,000 years) with some from Europe including Atapuerca

The volume number 247 of Quaternary International intituled “Neanderthal Home Spatial and Social Behaviours” resulted from the International Workshop “The Neanderthal Home: Spatial and Social Behaviour” organized by the IPHES (Institut Català de Paleoecologia Humana i Evolució Social) on October 2009 at Tarragona (Spain). The 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Abric Romaní site, an event that is in keeping with the beginning of research on Prehistory in the Iberian Peninsula, and also the celebration of the 25 years of excavation of the IPHES research team at the site, was the perfect occasion and opportunity to organize this meeting.

Anna Moya has received one of the first grants for the research and doctoral programme sponsored by the URV and Catalunya Caixa’s Fundació CaixaTarragona, and linked to the areas of specialisation of the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia. Her research will be conducted in the area of modern history.
