Luiz Oosterbeek

Luiz Oosterbeek s a graduate in history and a doctor of archaeology (1994). He is the coordinating professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (IPT) and has been a visiting professor at many different universities in Europe and Brazil. He is the vice president of the IPT, where he heads the master's and doctoral degree courses in prehistory and Quaternary studies (jointly with the Universidad de Vila Real). He is a member of the International Council of Philosophy and Human Sciences (UNESCO), the secretary general of the International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences, vice chairman of HERITY International, the former spokesperson for the science and society area of CYTED, the director of various archaeological projects as well as projects in heritage and territorial management in Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Senegal and Angola. He is the director of Mação Museum of Prehistoric Art (Tajo, Portugal). He leads the Quaternary group at the Geosciences Centre of Portugal and is the author of nearly 200 articles and 30 books.
