Urban development and architecture

The teaching and research spaces and infrastructures of the CEICS are distributed throughout the counties of southern Catalonia. The structures of the five clusters of specialization (chemistry and energy, nutrition and health, tourism, oenology, heritage and culture) are closely related to the socio-economic environment of the area, which facilitates the creation of links for channeling knowledge to society and the productive sector.

The majority of structures in this cluster are concentrated to the north of the city of Tarragona around the URV's Sescelades Campus and the Tarragona Science and Technology Park. This is where the URV's Faculty of Chemistry, the School of Chemical Engineering, the Institute for Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), the Chemistry Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTQ) and the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) are located, just a few kilometres from the region's expansive petrochemical industrial estate. The same area is home to the Scientific and Technical Resource Service and the Centre for Technology Transfer and Innovation (URV Foundation).
