The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia is located in a great place to live, an exceptional area with a pleasant Mediterranean climate and a fascinating and deep-rooted cultural heritage. The region is home to three world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO (the archaeological assemblage of Tarragona, the Monastery of Poblet and local cave paintings) as well as leisure and cultural activities to suit everybody's tastes.

The area to which CEICS belongs is one of the most dynamic in Spain and has been classified as an emerging region of the European Union. It is one of the driving forces behind development in Catalonia and is located at the meeting point of two axes of economic growth: the Mediterranean Arch and the Ebro Valley. In the area, the petrochemical industry thrives alongside a tourism sector of international significance, and the agriculture and food sector and the winemaking sector are becoming increasingly important. The southern counties of Catalonia enjoy a complex and complete transport infrastructure including a port, an airport, a motorway and a high-speed train.
