The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia, promoted by Rovira i Virgili University, is participating this year in the second Summer Science Campus programme sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). The programme is aimed at students in their last year of compulsory education or first year of voluntary secondary education who are enrolled in Spanish schools and have demonstrated special skills in the sciences. The workshops will held during the month of July in Tarragona for the purpose of providing the students with an experience that will bring them closer to the world of science, technology and innovation. Some 60 students will take part in scientific activities designed specifically for the programme, which will be led by university lecturers and secondary school teachers. They will live in a university and research environment with students from all over Spain.
The workshops offered are linked to some of the priority areas of research of the CEICS. This year the following workshops have been organized:
- H2 Creative Junior. University School of Chemical Engineering (ETSEQ-URV)
- Chemistry for a more sustainable world. Faculty of Chemistry (URV)
- How are medicines made? Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ)
- TIC TAC Robot. Technical School of Engineering / Department of. Electronic, Electric and Automatic Engineering
The Science Campus is organized into four one-week sessions, during which the students selected by the FECYT will be able to participate in one of the four workshops offered. Sporting, cultural and leisure time activities have also been organized within the city of Tarragona and in the surrounding area.
During the one week of the programme, the students have the chance to gain a unique scientific experience. They will work as a team and side by side with top-notch lecturers and researchers, who will help to foster their interest and skills in the sciences.
