The communication of the scientific and innovative activity of the CEICS and its members is one of the priorities of the Campus of International Excellence. If awareness about the science and the knowledge that is generated in the south of Catalonia is to be raised, communication must be excellent and reflect the excellence of scientific activity and teaching. The strategy is to improve the instruments: carefully select the means of communication, optimize the organization, promote a communicative culture, cultivate the communicative skills of the scientific community, recruit talent and reinforce special features.
The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) and the CEICS have set up their own Unit for Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+I). It has been based on the growing need to respond to the requirement of communicating the knowledge generated within the University, which brings together more than 1000 professionals working in research, and the associated centres and institutes that are part of the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia.
The UCC+I responds to the need to communicate the scientific activity of the University and its associated centres, to satisfy the concerns of its researchers and to draw knowledge closer to society.
The creation of the unit is the base on which all scientific communication has been restructured and concentrated, research results communicated and new activities organized. The UCC+I is heir to the CEICS's tradition of communication, and complements it by optimizing existing resources and providing improved structures and new tools. Structured internal coordination protocols have been implemented that facilitate the flow of information between researchers and those in charge of the UCC+I, and training, communication and dissemination activities have been set up.
The Unit has been recognised by FEYCYT and is part of Spain's UCC+I network. Its creation has activated bidirectional mechanisms for socializing science so that it can reach a large number of people of all ages and educational levels. Particular attention is paid to researchers, the university community, secondary-school teachers and students, and employers.
